Unable to Log in to UALR MAC after Password Change

These instructions are for a user who has already reset their password. If they have not, make sure they are connected to the campus network and have them reset their password as normal. When they are on the AD network, it should update both the local and the AD password at the same time. If that does not happen, please continue to the instructions below.

Ā

Over the Phone:

  1. If the user is entering their new password and it’s not allowing them to sign in, or the password bar is shaking, make sure they are only using the first part of their email, then have them enter their old password to see if they can get access.

  2. If the old password lets them in, continue Setting up Local Password.

Ā

If neither the new nor the old password allows them to log in, they will need to bring the laptop into the office or assign someone to go to their office for a desktop.

Ā

In the Office:

Try steps 1 and 2, and if neither works and they have brought the laptop into the office,

Log in to the Mac yourself using the following credentials:

fvadmin

Dander-Tavern-Wrist0-Avoid

The laptop does NOT need to be connected to the network for this step.

Then continue with Setting up Local Password.

Ā

Setting up Local Password:

Navigate to system settings

-You can do this by opening the Apple menu in the top left corner of the screen and selecting System Settings, or System Preferences on older models.

Ā

Click on Users & Groups

-You’ll find this in the sidebar on the left side of the System Settings window; you may need to scroll down to find it.

-In older Mac versions, you will see this option in the main Systems Preferences window.

Ā

Click the ā€œiā€ next to the username of the password you want to change.

-A new window will pop up.

-In older versions, you will have to click the padlock symbol and enter the admin login credentials again before you can select the user whose password you want to reset.

Ā

Click Reset

-A window will open with options for resetting the password.

-Have the user enter their new password twice. Type the new password into the New Password field, then type it again in the Verify field. They may also enter a password hint.

Ā

Click Reset Password

Ā

Log out of fvadmin

Ā

Have the user try to log in with the first part of their email and the new password.

Ā

Ā

If there are any issues past that, please bring in a full-time employee to see if any other issues are occurring.
